Late Afternoon In Edgartown

Welcome.

Martha's Vineyard is such a special place. So much history, so much maritime history. I can only remember spectacular views from any vantage point on the island.

This was a perfect summer day and I had some time to just stroll along the streets that lined the harbor. I was struck by the beauty of these flowers supported by the white fence and the dreamy shadows cast on the lush lawn. Idyllic, I believe is the word.

I used oil on canvas for this and the size is 18" x 14" by 1.5" deep.

Last Light On The San Pablo

This is a little 11x14 inch study of a grand and favorite place, The San Pablo River where calm and stillness rules.

I'm not sure how you feel but for me being in nature gives me a respite from the chaos that a day sometimes brings my way.

Springtime is for lovers and flowers....

Welcome,

What  is it about blossoms? Is it the color, the shape, the delicate flesh, the design, the many designs within one flower? Like love eh? I truly just beam each time I see a bouquet, a cluster in a planted garden or a stemmed classic sitting solo in a vase or glass on a table.

This was a hibiscus that I grew from a small plant in my backyard and my delight was constant looking out into the backyard and seeing a wall of different hibiscus color running riot in the afternoon sunlight.

To top it off I'm listening to Jose Feliciano sing "California Dreamin" beautiful art, beautiful music, beautiful singer on a beautiful day. Beautiful.

This one is 40" x 40" oil on canvas. And although I have not done many florals in the past 8 years I am looking forward to including more of them in my oeuvre in the future!

Softly now.....

Welcome.

You just marvel...I just marvel. This is elegance to me. Do you feel the grace?

It's great being out on the river. This one is the ICW.

I watch individuals and teams of everything from wood ducks, egrets, herons, osprey, gulls, dolphins, manatees, swallows, red tailed hawks, kingfisher all find a place in the ecosystem here.

This was dusk, perhaps 30 minutes from the twilight cool enveloping the estuary once the sun fell behind the horizon. I adore this light. It is filled with grays at this time of day with only subtle differentiation from each other. In a word it is sensual. And that's a beautiful sight creating a lovely feeling.

This is another of my photo art series. I had to laugh thinking I was employing my photos a bit more than I like too, however I blocked in 4 new oil paintings yesterday so stay tuned!

A Royal Tern....

Welcome.

 These beautiful rather shy shorebirds are real favorites of mine. This was an overcast morning at low tide and the sun was hazy creating a silvery, gold look to the water. This image almost looks like a mirrored reflection.

If you have been lucky enough to observe these birds in flight or in chase you know what I mean when I tell you it is a marvel of aerodynamics. Sharp turns, instant change of direction, glide, power and speed. Top Guns all.

This is simply to share my love of the environments and creatures that I prefer to paint and this Royal Tern being from my fine art photography collection.

Here and There.

Welcome

This was a piece I did several years ago. It is oil on canvas that is on a frame that is 5" deep and the overall size is 8' x 4 '.

I would like to do several more of these in a series as I have done studies for them. The overall concept is one of sensuality, the beach of course, movement, changes, fragments and glimpses of multiple realities happening simultaneously. This one is sold.

The fun in this was expanding the possibilities. I got to use really big brushes, play with spatial relationships and color harmonies within my chosen palettes as well as surface playing off depth.

Good morning.....

Welcome.

You see this beauty? You would not believed how good it smelled. Crisp, clean and fresh salty air filled my nostrils and my lungs. The sound was a gentle easy melody of overlapping waves peppered with a siren call from hungry gulls searching for breakfast.

This was 6 am or so EST on the Northeast Coast of Florida in the USA. I had the beach to myself. I seem to go when no one else wants her. That is fine with me. She is more than enough company and I can concentrate more deeply on the favor she bestows.

Whether you live on the coast, the mountains, the forest, the city or deep in the heartland of your country, get up, go in the morning and catch a sunrise. Your day will be better for it.
