In The Forest Surrounded By Autumn

In the movie Love Actually our narrator Hugh Grant makes the assessment while observing arrivals at the airport that love is actually all around us. I see it too. I see it in people. I see it in the thick of the trees even in the beauty of leaves fading into the forest floor.

The color, texture, light, shapes and the design of this simple composition paints a festival of life forms. Nature's exquisite engineering designs these organic forest siblings that are so similar and so unique simultaneously. I feel there is a melancholy and a joy in this beauty.

The Magnificent Muscovy.

Welcome Everybody,

These ducks truly amaze me with their plumage and character (or so I imagine). My research reveals that they are native to Mexico. This one is feral I believe. Apparently they are found in New Zealand, Australia and Europe. It does look like a tropical bird, right?

Now, forgive me, but if you wanted to dine on this duck, (say with some herbs, butter and garlic) it would be referred to as a Barbary duck! The Spanish I have heard, named this duck  pato criollo ("creole duck").

They are an artful delight to my eyes. They feature well against any tone in the background and I am really looking forward to portraying a few of them on canvas with oils. Muscovies  already appear to be works of art and I want to capture that.

Quiet Morning

Welcome.

There is a comfort and a delight as I wander off the beaten path just after a rain (notice the texture of the sand) when the sun has returned from behind the clouds and I am surprised to see these blossoms on the vine strung along the dunes.

The glories are like fresh pressed linens, crisp, light and a standout against the textures, the gray tones and shapes, directions, lines and subtle colors.....happiness and light.

Seahorse

Welcome,

Bobby Zimmerman knew you didn't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

Here is another jewel from my photo art archives. The sea, the coast, all shorelines that I explore, each and every one offer up unique and unexpected delights. I like the manatees, the dolphins, the shorebirds that most choose as their house toppings. How original to have a horse atop your seaside gazebo!

First, I love anything that has a patina of having endured the ravaging elements at the shore. The colors, tone and textures take on an authentic voice, a story told if you will. This roof has that feel, the hammered metal of the weathervane has it too. The colors and variations in hues soft and gray in this photograph are exceptionally appealing.

A Very Fine Feathered Friend.

Welcome.

Do you see wisdom in these eyes? Knowledge perhaps? There is information that we carry in our DNA every bit of information we need to make the life journey. When I see the stalking skills of an egret searching for shrimp at twilight in the estuaries I know for certain that it's art is ancient.

I really dig the warm gray palette in this portrait, yet there are subtle pinks, yellows and faint greens in the fluttering water moving in the background as the tide in the salt marsh begins it's daily and relentless journey back to the sea.

It is my blessing to see such beauty. I share it to call your attention to it. Perhaps for a second in a snapchat (love it) busy world to slow your roll for a moment and breathe. Drink in this image of stillness and serenity.

Night Heron On Day Watch

Welcome.

This is a bird I used to see in the salt marsh in Westport, Connecticut in the United States a few years back. It was a rare occasion and often at dusk from a distance. They were generally shy and secretive.

This shot was taken while aboard The Mayport Ferry, The Jean Ribault , crossing The St. Johns River in Florida USA. I suppose the constant and abundant schools of fish would bring this beautiful bird out for a daytime vigil on the watch for fish. It was my good fortune.

I like the contrast of nature and man. Here the industrial looking gateway booth for the barge to dock while loading and unloading in contrast with beautiful Night Heron both organic and with the ability to be mobile and using the work of man to suit it's purpose.

One of the other aspects of my nature photography is my love of color and palettes. here we have such similar markings on both bird and bridge.
