Beautiful art, food, philosophy related to nature, good health, the ocean, waterways, estuarine and wildlife. These are joyful healing explorations of coastal environments, thinking, cooking and my connection to them expressed through my art and words.

She Listens to Seashells by the Sea Shore
Welcome.
Hi everybody. This is my watercolor 22" x 36" on Moulin Du Roy cold press 300lb watercolor paper. It is the first in a series of watercolor paintings for a children's book I have written about a little girl and her adventures living by the coast.
I like the composition and the tones very much in this painting as well as a slight view from above. It also captures a very Floridian ambient soft sunlight. The upper right area of blue was left open to be able to accommodate a block of type.

The Greeting
Welcome.
Hi everybody. Simple things can add so much to our lives. Take flowers for example. Although I must admit that the creation of flowers seems like no simple feat to me. I do enjoy the color, the delicate flesh of the petals and often a heavenly fragrance. Think Magnolia blossoms.
I spotted these Geraniums and Marigolds on the front steps of a beautiful home. Combined with the design that the sun splashed railing created with shadow, the terra cotta pot and the nuances of reflected color on the white wood and the texture on stone stairs made for a stunning little vignette.
It is a nice little 'hello' to come home too...don't you think?
This is a watercolor on board 15" x 20" and is sold.

Ride The Tide And Go With The Flow
Welcome.
Hi everybody. My watercolor on Arches paper is called "Ride The Tide And Go With The Flow" 15" x 15" It is one in a series of a larger project. This whelk is the ultimate in marine design suited to it's life. They have been here on earth for 30 million years.
I have been reading lately about innovation in form and function with Nike, Cole Haan, IoT and many more. I remember reading about Christian Dior and his forays into nature for inspiration.
On my studio wall there is a statement. "If you can dream it, you can do it." Perhaps we could collectively dream of a bigger peace, a healthier sustainable life in collaboration with our planet and to my earth tribe, "If we can dream it, we can do it."
Thank you for looking at my art today.

Pecan Pie Anyone?
Welcome.
Hi everybody.
Ok, so let's say you are responsible for creating the art for the food page every month of a popular local magazine. How are you going to make it a little different? How in the world are you going to do pecan pie differently?
One of the first things I would do with an assignment if I didn't have an instant 'eureka' moment was to research the subject. One of the things I found out was that among two of our founding fathers, Washington and Jefferson thought that pecans would be and were a profitable agricultural cash crop.
And...when enjoying a leisurely dinner discussing oh, let's say a constitution, a declaration, the price of tea we come to the coffee and dessert and there is one piece of pecan pie left..uh, oh! It's a duel of the fastest fork!
Art and humor are such a wonderful visual device. This was watercolor and ink on board.

Conductors of Sumptuous Symphonies!
Welcome.
Hi everybody. Ok. So, I am gone off the reservation here for a bit until my new coastal pieces are finished!
Stay tuned I have not forgotten my mission.....several pieces are in progress on my drafting table and easel, in the meantime a tad more fun! Wouldn't that be a great name, Tad Morefun?
Here is another from the food page series from Water's Edge Magazine in my humor style illustration. This story was about all the groovy gadgets you can have fun with in your kitchen. Williams Sonoma lookout!
I am all for great kitchen appliances and tools, great knives, Sabatier and Henckels for me along with the utensils that actually have a reason to take up space on my counter.
Do you have any that you love, can't live without? This piece was created in pen with watercolor and ink on watercolor board.

And now for something a little different....!
Welcome.
Hi everybody. OK, OK I know this blog is about the coast and wildlife, so we have a least some fish caught from the ocean in this one and the chicken was of nature's wild origin!
I used to have the food page of a magazine to illustrate every month and although I chose to alternate from straight realism to humor when the story warranted it I like them both approaches equally.
My artist pal once said to me that he didn't think any artist on the planet, in the USA anyway hadn't done some version of Grant Wood's "American Gothic" and here's mine.
The article was about locally grown food for our tables, organic, and the healthier ways we can feed ourselves and support our communities.
Thanks for looking at my work today. When you want some of my tasty coastal journey realism please visit www.alanphillipstudio.com
